I KNOW what kind of day I'm going to have--because I'm creating it on paper first.
As I journal, I'm experiencing the emotions I want to have; and I'm dreaming, creating, reflecting, receiving, and recording all at the same time.
Pretty much since I started writing, I've always kept a journal. But I was doing it wrong for the first few years. As a child, I was inspired by my pioneer ancestors who kept a record of their lives. I always thought you were supposed to journal so that future generations could learn about your life. However, keeping a daily account of the number of rivers you crossed, or how green the grass was for the oxen (like my ancestors did!)-- is NOT the same thing as journaling TO CREATE the life you imagine. My journal was dry, boring, and uninspiring–to read and to write.
I started to hear people talk about the power of journaling and how it was changing their life. When I heard Ben Hardy say "be your future self, NOW" on a podcast, I knew that's what I was missing in my journaling practice.
